Its been a while, and I missed you, and… ๐๐ค๐๐๐๐๐ Everything nice.
Friday Mind Fuck #FMF is the last lines weekly series seeking to challenge your mind, your habits, and maybe inspire change in a thing or two.
Life is like a path, and during our journey, we all have doubts within ourselves and mostly thats because of fear. Some of us are afraid of failure, others are afraid of vulnerability, and well… Others are afraid of darkness and noisy neighbors, nosy ones too, or whatever else.
Fear is a default reaction… More like how when you touch a hot pan, you quickly draw your hand back. Fear is meant to shield us from heartbreaks ๐ and, disappointment, and pain. Through the instinctive feeling of fear, the conscious part warns us to brace ourselves for the unkown.
What bugs me is that, most of us don’t really acknowledge when we are afraid. Instead, if you are like me, you want to suppress it and act calm. The problem is that its all an act, and if someone is keen enough; they’ll notice it. See, fear is like the scent of rain ๐ง๏ธ, that which kinda warns you its about to? And failing to acknowledge its existence and find a way to deal with the incoming rain will not prevent it from falling.
Whether you are rained on mad, whether you seek shelter, whether you launch your umbrella, or decide to enjoy being rained on is entirely dependent on what we choose to consciously or unconsciously do after we notice the smell of rain. Our reaction, in that moment, determines whether we go home drooling, feeling like shit for leaving our umbrella โ or feeling the adrenaline after enjoying the rain. P.s (kissing in the rain is overrated ๐ ).
The first part to humanity is being human; and that means embracing everything including the emotions, feelings and differences. I have heard all about masculinity, especially among men, and its often toxic. Avoid that!!! You all know Mark? I hope so. He’s only like my favourite author of all time; no big deal here ๐.
Mark says that wisdom is being able to acknowledge and feel everything whilst acting impartial of it.
Listen, feeling sad, jealous, shitty, too short ๐ , slow ๐ฅบ, or even dangerous (Taliban) is not a bad thing. The issue is; we should act despite those feelings by engaging better judgment paradigms.
Instead of bashing your kid (babez ๐คญ) who fvcked up your kitchen, or your chair trying to make you a cup of coffee, we should instead appreciate the effort, the thought, or the gesture relayed through the incident. Sorry if you may have kinda so much loved your chair and kitchen… ๐ There is always something to appreciate if you are present to catch it ๐ฏ.
Rather than avoiding these uncomfortable and unwanted feelings, embrace them and teach yourself how to remain impartial amidst chaos. Let fear be your motivation to test yourself and see how you perform under this model. Acknowledge being afraid, but find a way to do whatever needs to be done irrespectively. That is what converts good to great. Ask around, as even the mightiest have been afraid at one point.
There is no shame in being afraid, embracing emotions, weaknesses, and everything in between. Pause and think about your greatest achievements; actually… I’ll wait while you do that ๐
Pause and think…
Dude, just do it! ๐
Okay, I was saying… In atleast one instance, your achievements (that you just recalled ๐) had you afraid to get going at the begining. Maybe you were afraid of starting that target practice, a workout, or music, but in the end; the success trumps fear if you can be able to push through irrespectively.
Consistency beats effort… Its one of my favourite quotes because I’m a progress junkie. I just wanna move forward no matter how little.
In that endeavour I have learnt that our minds are like muscles. If you train how to throw punches long enough, your body (muscles really ๐) do it with ease and more automatically. The same goes for the brain too, which is to mean. If you want to overcome fear, then embrace it, and little by little the uncomfortable will go away. At the end of the day, (…its evening ๐คญ) one can only blackmail me using a well-safeguarded secret, but once I’ve shared it (faced it really ๐ ) its no longer powerful.
As such, practicing to remain comfortable in the uncomfortable is the muscle we need to train until it fires automatically. When that time comes, fear will be an asset because it warns us, yet doesn’t cripple us from doing what we need to do. Its what they teach in Quantico ๐ ; sh*t goes down… Don’t panic and freeze, rather; panic if you want, and act!!!
Doing the things you are bad at, eventually gets you good at them and its only in so doing that we can actually change anything we so don't like about ourselves. Embrace these difficult things, those that make you uncomfortable and find comfort in doing them. If she says you chew terribly, it will suck, probably even get you thinking about what she sucks at... But thats not it; because then you are shooting the messenger. Instead of massaging the ego, change your eating habit dummy. If there's anything I'd love any reader to get into their head from this Friday Mind Fuck, its the content of this paragraph.
Its time for action; so change whatever you deep down know needs action, and eventually change your mind… Like, how you think and react. ๐ฌ #gLL
Till another time, stay safe and embrace humanity. Everything human!!! Not just what makes you feel like your are the prize; rather embrace the hard work that leads to the prize.
